Urban Air. LA. Stephen Glassman.

Urban air is the latest project from the LA-based artist Stephen Glassman. The plan is to install living bamboo plants, alongside environment sensors, on existing billboards suspended above the freeway. “My intention is to put a crack in the urban skyline, so that when people are compressed, squeezed, stuck in traffic, and they look up and they see an open space of fresh air that allows them to take a breath and feel themselves as humans and see what life might be.” The locations will also be WiFi enabled to allow people to check the air quality in the area using the sensors. They’re currently seeking funding through Kickstarter to launch their flagship project – participate in the idea:

Read My Lips. A Thousand Points of Night.

This remix music video was built around George H. W. Bush’s now-infamous “read my lips” sound bite from his 1988 presidential election campaign. The song was recorded by Don Was (of the band Was Not Was) under the pseudonym “A Thousand Points of Night.” The music video for the single later caused a media controversy when it was shown on MTV during the Bush/Clinton/Perot three-way presidential election showdown in 1992. The second half of this clip is a PBS discussion about the sinister implications of remix video with Bill Moyers, Doug Bailey, and Kathleen Hall Jamieson.
